What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathic medicine is a primary care medicine that emphasizes prevention, treatment, and optimal health through the use of therapies that encourage an individuals' ability to self-heal. These therapies include traditional, scientific, and evidence-based methods. Diagnosis focuses on identifying the underlying cause of disease and treatment focuses on using the least-invasive method of removing the obstacles to healing.
The foundation of naturopathic medicine is based on these 6 principles:
What are ND's?
Naturopathic doctors (ND's) are primary care physicians who have attended a four-year accredited naturopathic medical school and are clinically trained. We are educated in the same core sciences (anatomy, physiology, etc.) as medical doctors, however we have additional training in Western medicine, which we use as a foundation for diagnosis and treatment. Our final two years of training are in a clinical setting under the supervision of licensed professionals. Like MD's, we must pass professional board exams before we can be licensed by a state. ND's are trained in holistic approaches to therapy such as clinical nutrition, homeopathic medicine, botanical medicine, psychology, physical medicine, and counseling.

The foundation of naturopathic medicine is based on these 6 principles:
- The healing power of nature: My goal is to identify and remove the obstacles to wellness and promote the body's innate ability to heal itself.
- Identify and treat the cause: I investigate with the goal of identifying the underlying cause of illness as opposed to only addressing symptoms of a disease.
- First do no harm: I use the least-invasive therapies possible and attempt to avoid harmful suppression of symptoms to help bring the body into a state of wellness while acknowledging your individual healing process.
- Treat the whole person: I pay close attention to all aspects of an individual's mental, emotional, physical, environmental, and genetic state and respect that each individual has their own path.
- Doctor as teacher: I respect the doctor/patient relationship and provide you with the information needed to take charge of your own health.
- Prevention: I focus on disease prevention and aid in identifying risk factors so interventions can be made to promote current and future wellness.
